Stomach cancer

Around 8,000 people a year in the UK are diagnosed with stomach cancer. There are various different types of cancer in the stomach, in the UK 95% of all stomach cancer are diagnosed as adenocarcinoma.

Other types of stomach cancer are:

  • Certain Lymphomas: Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue known as MALT lymphomas.
  • Carcinoid Tumours.
  • Certain Soft Tissue Sarcomas: Gastrointestinal stromal tumours known as GISTs and Leiomyosarcomas.
Things to look out for

Symptoms include but are not limited to:

  • Loss of weight and or appetite.
  • Trouble or discomfort when swallowing.
  • Nausea (feeling sick) and or Vomiting (being sick).
  • Feeling abnormally full (bloated) following eating.
  • Fatigue (tiredness).
  • Abnormal gas (burping more).
  • Blood when passing stools and or blackened stools.

These symptoms can be related to other medical conditions, but due to the nature of cancer it is important you speak to your doctor/consultant if you experience some or any of these symptoms.
